CHARDON, Ohio - November 12, 2020: Chardon City Council approved the Theater Ad Hoc Committee’s unanimous recommendation to appoint Thrive Performing & Visual Arts with programming and management of the Geauga Theater and the facilities at 106 Water Street. Built in 1939, the 292-seat Geauga Theater is an art deco treasure that is nestled in Chardon’s quaint, walkable downtown. Thrive’s programming at the venue will be three-fold: live music, musical theater, and classic cinema complete with beer, wine, and snacks. Thrive will generate much of the entertainment staged at the Geauga Theater, but will also host outside acts: bands, orchestras, dance companies, comedians, and more. Thrive will not only provide programming and management for the Geauga Theater, but also education and special events at 106 Water Street.
The Theater Ad Hoc Committee set forth on a search for a new company to bring performing arts programming and enrichment back to Chardon following the dissolution of the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild in April.
The Ad Hoc Committee members were consistent in their assessment of the value Thrive will bring to Chardon and the historical art deco theater. They commented that Thrive brings energy and entertainment that will attract a diverse audience and satisfy the needs identified by community leaders and members. Thrive's multi-faceted approach to entertainment in the Geauga Theater will offer something for everyone.
